My mission as an acupuncturist with a decade-long military background is to serve those who have served. I witnessed firsthand the profound impact of military service and the toll it can take on both physical and mental well-being. Drawing upon my experience as a behavioral health non-commissioned officer in the Army Reserve, I am committed to addressing the physical and emotional pain endured by our troops.   • As a per diem acupuncturist, provide specialized acupuncture treatment services at two out-patient clinics, namely Underground Stream Qi Acupuncture and Acu Therapy Pain Clinic (located in West Los Angeles), where I had prior professional connections. Additionally, offer educational sessions on treatment methods and insurance claim matters for private insurance companies to newly hired acupuncturists at these establishments.
  • Treat a variety of ailments ranging anywhere from infertility, insomnia, musculoskeletal pain, allergies, stress, anxiety, headaches, PTSD symptoms, depression, side effects from cancer-related treatments, cold/flu support, and drug/alcohol recovery support.

Accomplishment

  • In a clinic located in West Los Angeles, due to its nature, there was a significant proportion of patients presenting with substance abuse issues. I assisted these patients in achieving their goals of withdrawal symptom management and restoration of daily functioning by providing acupuncture treatments along with herbal supplements aimed at normalizing renal function and strengthening their determination. Through this approach, approximately 60%(between 42-45) of the 70 patients were able to attain their desired objectives.

  • Developed a detailed questionnaire to address the variability in treatment principles and acupuncture point selection based on the differing root causes, even for similar symptomatic issues. Mastered a protocol for selecting specific acupuncture points through this questionnaire.

And each session lasts approximately one hour. The therapeutic foot reflexology treatment meticulously selects and stimulates specific points tailored to each patient's diagnosis. Additionally, identify areas of intense pain through needle insertion and stimulate them using hands or other acupressure devices.

  • Through the treatment of over 100 patients within the span of a year, I developed proficiency in diagnosing and addressing various digestive, reproductive, and musculoskeletal issues by assessing foot morphology and conducting palpations.

  • As patient care manager for two years, I was responsible for maintaining the quality of treatment. When using acupuncture, moxibustion, and cupping, I always made the other three team members aware of safety-related aspects. And every month, we checked the types of patients and treatment rates, checked whether the treatment direction was properly established, and checked areas for improvement through meetings. And assisted in training new acupuncturists at the clinic, promoting consistency in practice methods and patient care standards.

Accomplishments:

  • Successfully developed the ability to adapt and excel in challenging environments while providing appropriate treatment to patients within limited timeframes at an out-patient clinic in Koreatown, where an average of 20 to 30 patients were treated daily.
  • Treated a wide range of conditions, including vertigo, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and various types of musculoskeletal problems, employing a variety of techniques such as acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, and laser acupuncture. Furthermore, I have developed standardized treatment procedures specifically tailored to address vertigo.

  • Provide clinical acupuncture services within an outpatient setting, encompassing the development, implementation, and evaluation of personalized, efficacious treatments. For patients experiencing pain, treatment effectiveness is verified by assessing alterations in pain levels and range of motion post-treatment. Treatment efficacy is validated through bi-weekly case studies, with adjustments made to establish a safer and more effective treatment plan when necessary.
  • Offer counseling to patients, providing specific explanations regarding the necessity of the prescribed treatment, the specialized techniques employed, its mechanisms of action, and the anticipated outcomes.

Accomplishments

  • Developed the treatment protocol for a combined approach involving acupuncture and herbal medicine from 2009 to 2010. This initiative yielded positive outcomes, benefiting 25 patients with anxiety, 4 patients with epilepsy, 12 patients with PTSD, over 70 patients with digestive issues, and more than 300 participants enrolled in the weight loss program.

Military Experience

Serving as a Behavioral Health Non-Commissioned Officer in the US Army Reserve since November 2013.

Currently, I am activated to fulfill an active duty operational support mission, stationed in South Korea. This marks my second tour in my military career. The scheduled conclusion of my current mission is September 30th, 2024. However, depending on the circumstances, there is a possibility of utilizing terminal leave to return to the United States earlier.

1. US Army Reserve (Mobilization) Support of Operation Enduring Freedom, El Paso, TX

Position Title: 7402nd TMC Behavioral Health NCOIC

  • Serve as the Noncommissioned Officer In Charge (NCOIC) of the 7402nd TMC Behavioral Health (BH) section at the Soldier Readiness Processing Center (SRPC) at Fort Bliss, Texas
  • Oversaw daily operations in the BH section

Accomplishments: 

  • Successfully processing 2417 Soldiers, including seven service members identified as high-risk and escorted to the Emergency Room at William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) for proper BH treatment
  • Exceeded expectations throughout the 3rd Battalion, 1st Armored Division Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise (EDRE), providing SRP services to 3,515 3/1 AD Soldiers and 1,020 National Guard, Reserve, and Civilian contract personnel over an 8-day period
  • Led assigned staff and six AD providers in the prompt execution of processing 707 service members evaluated in the BH section
  • Successful execution of the EDRE contributed significantly to improving the efficiency of future rapid deployment readiness
  • Exhibited the core Army Value of selfless service by extending reach beyond the Behavioral Health (BH) section to assist in the Encounter, Screening, and Medical Final Out sections during the EDRE
  • As a result, created encounters for over 150 Soldiers and processed over 70 soldiers through the Screening section of the SRPC
  • Played an essential role in monitoring, tracking, and moving medical equipment, furnishings, computers, and associated hardware valued at over $1.4 million during the relocation of the Soldier Readiness Processing Center (SRPC) from Building 60 to Vogel Hall in January 2023.
