Past Community Leadership Experiences

  • Prior to pursuing my university education and starting my career, I was an active grassroots leader. An Assistant Secretary in the Aljunied Kembangan Residents Committee Zone 1 (2003 - 2005) and a Publicity Secretary for the Aljunied Kembangan People's Association Youth Movement (2005 - 2007). The experience taught me about the invaluable role that grassroots movement played to engage the local community and create social integration between communities within their own small neighbourhoods.
  • Served as an active youth leader for Al-Istiqamah mosque (1999-2000) and En-Naeem mosque (2005 to 2007). Spearheaded several big scale projects such as the Qiyam Camp in 1999 that involved collaboration of 3 mosques (Al-Istiqamah, Alkaff Kg Melayu and Kg Siglap), Kem Muhasabah Diri (2006), Korban Project (2006) and Syabab En-naeem Night Cycling (2006). I gained invaluable insights on the integral space that mosque had in the Muslim community daily lives and its powerful potential to support healthy youth and family development for the community.
