Personal Statement

Growing up in a missionary family that served in China for over 20 years, I was immersed in a multicultural environment from an early age. As a result, I became trilingual—fluent in Korean, English, and Chinese—and developed a deep appreciation for language as a bridge between people and cultures. This multilingual background allows me to connect with a wide range of learners and bring a global perspective to the classroom.

I faced significant challenges since I was kid as my parents were always under the typical financial strains found in most of the ministers. However, I remained committed to my education and faith. By God's grace, I was accepted into Calvin University in the United States, where I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a GPA of 3.98. I have been named to the Dean’s List every semester and received both the President’s Scholarship and Dean’s Scholarship in recognition of my academic excellence.

While studying in the U.S., I served as a Sunday school teacher at an American church. This experience deepened my passion for education and helped me grow in patience, creativity, and the ability to communicate complex ideas in clear and encouraging ways. Teaching children each week confirmed my calling to guide and support others through both learning and faith.

During my military service as a KATUSA interpreter, I acted as the primary communication link between U.S. and Korean forces. This role demanded not only fluency in both languages but also a high level of professionalism, cultural awareness, and precision under pressure.

Whether through military interpretation, church ministry, or classroom teaching, I’ve seen how language can empower people, foster connection, and inspire growth. I am excited to bring my trilingual fluency, cross-cultural background, and heart for teaching to your English academy. It would be a privilege to help your students gain confidence, skill, and joy in learning English.
