PhD Researcher - Thin-Film Batteries

Dongguk University
Seoul
01.2021 - 02.2026
  • Hyundai sponsored project: Developing thin-film cathodes (NCM622, LVO, ZnO-based) using RF magnetron sputtering and evaporation.
  • Fabricating and testing solid-state thin-film batteries and liquid-electrolyte cells.
  • Engineering Al2O3 protection layers and other interface treatments to improve cycle life and energy density in Ni-rich NCM cathodes.
  • Performing multi-modal characterization (XRD, SEM/TEM, EDS, XPS, EELS) to correlate microstructure with electrochemical performance.
  • Using rapid thermal annealing in oxygen-rich environments to stabilize high-Ni thin-film cathodes.
  • Working on Li-metal protection strategies and interfacial stability in solid-state architectures.
  • Now focusing on the anode current collectors for better lithium plating for developing high energy density anode free thin film batteries.
